A Roadmaster Direct-Connect style baseplate allows you to connect your Roadmaster tow bar directly to the baseplate, eliminating the need for a crossbar. This is Roadmaster's easiest system to connect and disconnect. If you are using a Roadmaster motorhome-mounted tow bar (except Sterling), this is the baseplate you should choose. For a Sterling, Stowmaster, Tracker, Guardian Rock Shield, or Tow Defender part number 4700, use a Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Baseplate instead (sold separately). Although the same basic frame was used on all Chevy and GMC pickups and SUV's from 1987-2000, slight frame variations require different base plates to accommodate all of the vehicles. For 1987-1998 Chevy and GMC Trucks and SUV's, measure the distance from Point A (on the bottom of the frame) to Point B (on the side of the frame). The hole on the bottom of the frame is slotted and may run from front to back or from side to side. This baseplate will only fit if the measurement is approximately 3". For 1999 and new Chevy and GMC trucks and SUV's, if the tow hooks are bolted externally to the bottom of the frame, use the instructions above for 1987-1998 Chevy and GMC Trucks and SUV's. If the tow hooks are bolted internally in the frame rail, this base plate will not work. For ½ ton 2 wheel drive models: Check front suspension for torsion bar or coil spring; if you have a torsion bar, use Roadmaster # 199-1 or 199-3 instead; if you have a coil spring, use Roadmaster #199-8 or 199-9 instead. For ¾ ton 2 wheel drive with torsion bar, use Roadmaster # 3101-1 instead.
