Frequently Asked Questions
The inlet size needs to match the outside diameter or connection size of the tailpipe according to the tip design. Then check the outlet diameter, overall length, and available clearance around the bumper or body. A larger outlet changes the appearance, but it does not make an incorrectly sized inlet fit the pipe.
A clamp-on tip is easier to remove or replace when it is designed for the tailpipe size and has enough straight pipe for the clamp. A weld-on tip creates a permanent connection and can be useful when the desired position or pipe shape is better suited to fabrication. Choose based on the tip design, tailpipe condition, and how permanent you want the installation to be.
Most tips change appearance more than overall exhaust volume. Some resonated tips can alter the tone slightly, but the muffler, resonators, pipe size, engine, and complete system have a much larger effect on sound. If you want a major sound change, compare mufflers or complete exhaust systems instead of relying on the tip alone.
Stainless-steel tips generally offer strong corrosion resistance, while coated or chrome-finished tips can also hold up well when the finish is maintained and not damaged. Climate, road salt, heat, and cleaning all affect appearance over time. Choose a material and finish that fits the vehicle use and the amount of maintenance you want to do.
