Some winches already include rope, a fairlead, remote, hook, and electrical components. Check the included-parts list first so you buy only what your installation is actually missing.

A useful basic setup commonly includes properly rated shackles, an anchor or tree-protector strap, gloves, and a compatible snatch block or recovery pulley when your rigging calls for one. The exact setup depends on the vehicle and how you recover. If you're starting without recovery gear, a complete recovery kit can be easier than selecting every piece individually.

Not always. Recovery equipment such as compatible shackles, straps, and snatch blocks can often be mixed across brands when their ratings, dimensions, and intended use are correct. Winch-specific replacement parts are different. Motors, solenoids, controllers, brakes, drums, geartrain components, and similar service parts may fit only particular models or generations.

Check the manufacturer's working-load or application rating for each component and stay within those limits. A snatch block may be rated for winches only up to a certain capacity, while shackles and straps have their own ratings. Treat the recovery equipment as a system rather than assuming everything marketed for trucks or off-road recovery can safely be used together.
