Frequently Asked Questions

Many metal fittings can be reused if the threads, flare, sealing surface, and body are undamaged, but seals, O-rings, crush washers, or hose ends may require replacement depending on the design. Do not reuse a fitting that is cracked, cross-threaded, rounded, distorted, or leaking.

Choose the angle that gives the hose a smooth route without kinking, rubbing, or excessive side load on the fitting. A tighter angle can save space, but adding unnecessary bends can make routing harder and increase restriction. Use the least complicated routing that clears heat and moving parts.

AN fittings use a flared sealing surface and dash sizing, NPT fittings seal on tapered pipe threads, and inverted-flare fittings seal at a formed flare inside the connection. Each requires the matching port or adapter. Do not force one thread or sealing style into another even when the nominal size looks similar.

Match both ends of the fitting to the hose, hard line, port, or component being connected. Pay attention to hose inside diameter, AN size, NPT size, flare type, thread pitch, and whether the fitting is straight or angled. Similar-looking fittings are not necessarily interchangeable.
